I developed ME/CFS in 1996 following a severe respiratory illness.
Mine is 'typical' in how it developed and symptoms, including the 'post-exertional malaise'.
I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia this year and am now on Cymbalta/duloxetine 60 mg, which then affected my sleep (ie I didn't sleep - this was proven on an overnight hospital based sleep study).
interestingly the sleep study did show alpha wave intusion into delta, a finding sometimes seen in people with ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia.
I now also take Mirtazapine 7.5 mg at night along with magnesium and a valerian/hops/passion flower supplements to help me sleep.
The Duloxetine has helped heaps with the pain.
(I also take numerous paracetamol during the day + curcumin supplement + low dose codeine/anti inflammatory as needed).
Unfortunately my health also deteriorated from last year onwards, and in October my part time (I couldn't do full time and was very much struggling to do part time) job was terminated by my employer. My short term memory is abysmal, e.g. by the time I get to the afternoon whatever I did in the morning was like something in the far distant past. But that has it's benefits! If something -ve has happened I forget about it easily lol!
But, I am not missing work nor the stress involved with it and am having a much better quality of life, so thank my Manager for inadvertently kicking off the "Employer Initiated retirement on the Grounds of Ill Health".
I haven't had my sleeve yet - booked 2nd Feb, and am hoping that the changes in my gut biota caused by the sleeve will be beneficial to my overall health ie my general well being and functionality with ME/CFS and Fibro will improve.
I am basically gluten free, but do have the odd bit, except for Christmas when I had LOTS!! OMG, I do love a good Christmas pudding! I've also got irritable bowel syndrome and leaky gut syndrome with lots of allergies sensitivities etc.
I usually do a low FODMAP diet.
In the meantime I am doing the 2 cloves freshly crushed raw diet/day to kill of bad bacteria and am having my home made yogurt made with my numerous probiotics to recolonise with good bacteria because your gut has so many functions including immunity, obesity etc .
Post surgery I am planning on having "Alliforce" capsules and having my home made yogurt made with my numerous probiotics. I am going to talk that over with the Dietitian when I see her. Also going to ask about gut biota and FODMAPS.
I think that 2015 for me is going to be an absolutely amazing year, and I reckon that I'll emerge out of it like a butterfly from a chrysalid.
